Frog Hunting At Llyn Y Fan Fach
Today we went on a walk to a Glacial lake in the Brecon Beacons National Park. We were going on a frog hunt! With some Freddo chocolate frogs hidden in my pocket we set off in the hope of finding frogs.
The lake is approximately 1.5 miles away from the car park, it runs along a stream with lots of small waterfalls and has a beautiful backdrop of the mountains. It is not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs but is a well trodden path suitable for the smallest of legs. Our walk took around 4 hours but we spent an hour and a half of that at the lake.
We parked opposite The Keepers House Map Here.
Heres how our walk looked…
We headed up the dirt track from the car park.
We walked up along the stream taking time to play.
We loved throwing stones in and watching the ripples.
I used slight of hand to drop freddo frogs for the kids to stumble on..this kept them enthused about walking.
There were some cool places to take photos.
We searched in all the pools of water we could find and eventually found some frog spawn 🙂
And a little further on we found a frog too!!
after about an hours walking, of which we spent a lot of time playing and looking at things, we arrived at the lake… it was stunning.
If you wanted to do a longer walk you could walk on up to the ridge and walk looking down on the lake..we popped up the path too enable us to look down and were treated by a stunning view.
We had a fab walk and can’t wait to return in the summer 🙂
