Bringing Kids Drawings To Life

29 Dec

Today we decided to head out to blow the cobwebs away after being mostly in over the Christmas period. The children wanted to go to the beach so with rain clouds looming we pulled on our waterproofs and headed for the coast. The children had spent the morning drawing pictures so we thought it would be a lovely idea to… View Post

Ship Den Building

24 Apr

⚓⛵🦈📚 You can’t beat a bit of den building using the kitchen table. We did some ship den building to build a reading nook and sailed the oceans of the west. Looks like we’ll be lunching on the upper deck ☺ Watch out for those sharks!

Family Days 50 Things to Do Before or After You’re 11 & 3/4s – A Tried & Tested Guide to Making Childhood Magical

18 Jun

Remember your childhood? Dodgy dangerous homemade go carts, bruised knees and war wounds, climbing trees and building dens, wheelbarrow racing and playing out from dawn til dusk. The holidays seemed to last forever and be filled with adventures that we made without any money in our pockets but with bucket loads of imagination and hearts full of enthusiasm to pedal through… View Post

⛺️ Never underestimate the simple fun of a bla ⛺️ Never underestimate the simple fun of a blanket fort..two chairs, a blanket, some cushions and a couple of books...
To a child it’s a castle, a grandeur stately home, a cave deep in the jungle...
To a child it’s an adventure.... 💖

Today is 3 years since my father passed. Dementia Today is 3 years since my father passed. Dementia truly is a horrid, vile and unforgiving disease.

Three years ago I wrote this for him and today I was sad, & angry, & moody, & reflective, and all sorts of other emotions.
Grief sure is strange and ever changing emotion even though it remains an emotion only defined as grief...it’s an emotion in itself with a rollercoaster entwined. It’s ups and downs, stops and starts, and directions that change as easy as the wind.

I’m not sure I can describe my day filled with a pandemic, schools runs and homeschooling in one, home life dynamics that we all face..
life in general which is crazy at the moment (for us all)
...and the underlying reminder that grief threw throughout the day reminding me that I’m still sad to say goodbye.

Anyway, I wrote this three years ago.

We won’t be sad dear papa,
We won’t be sad for you,
We’ll smile for all the love you gave
And take joy in all we do..
We won’t be sad dear papa
We’ll replace the tears for happy thoughts
And take heed to all the laughs you gave
And the values that you taught.
We won’t be sad dear papa
Even whilst our hearts are blue
We’ll be thankful that we shared a love
And were graced with love from you.

And we won’t be sad dear papa
Your spirit will not go
It will stay with us in all we do
And we’ll never be alone.

We won’t be sad dear papa,
Even though we cry,
We’re thankful for the time we had,
We’re just sad to say goodbye.

Miss you dad.

**apologies for my ‘let’s take a selfie dad’ faces 🤦‍♀️😂🥰
A true friend doesn’t need to be knocking on you A true friend doesn’t need to be knocking on your door everyday...
We make friends, break friends, shed friends & lose friends, but some friends we hold onto forever even through the most minimal of effort.
A true friend is someone you may not see for years but can still get together, eat ice cream and put the world to rights like you’d never been apart.
Friends that will knock on your door unannounced and you let them in without a worry about the mess and chaos that surrounds you. Those friends that you know will carry no judgement when you’re pulling your child down from climbing on the work top or whilst you’re picking up discarded pants.
A friend that does not care that you haven’t brushed you hair or that you’re still in last nights sweats, a friend that isn’t concerned that last nights dishes are still in the sink or the wash basket is overflowing. A true friend will see through all of that and bring you happiness in their company.
We all need that friend that will listen to us during our downs and laugh with us during our ups.
A friend that will tell us how it is, a friend that will tell us what we want to hear along with what we don’t.
A friend that will live us despite our choices and support us without judgement.
True friends will build you up and never feel a need to knock you down.
But most importantly, true friends hearts are always open for each other regardless of time absent and choices made.
True friends see sunshine in each other’s company even when it rains.
True friends are always there in the shadows watching your back even if you don’t see them.
True friends always sit on the sidelines ready to step in when you need them.

But most importantly is the knowledge that you don’t have to be in each other’s pocket, the knowledge that you both have busy lives, the knowledge that there is no expectation or obligation....the knowing that regardless of any absence, Days, months, even years, you are still both right there with the ability to come together and reconnect like you’ve never been apart.

Mrs FD ❤️🙌
