Sunflower Picking At Darts Farm

Ever fancied picking your own sunflowers? Walking through fields full of these beautiful giants is something very special indeed, a real essence of summer and a fabulous photo opportunity to create memories to look back on…thats exactly what we did..

Darts Farm located in Devon is just the place to head to and it has a fabulous incentive each year orientated towards raising money for local charities through the sales of PYO sunflowers.

You start by collecting your secateurs before heading out onto the fields to choose your flowers…

Once you have picked your flowers you return to make your donations at the pay tills in the farm shop. The suggested donation is 50p per flower…a bargain!

The fields are a 5 minute walk from the main farm shop buildings and car parks, but the route is flat and buggy friendly and there are signs along the way so you don’t get lost…but you can see the fields of yellow even when driving in so locating the fields is not hard..

it really is a treat to visit…

Picking the sunflowers was something that all ages could take part in too…

It’s such a lovely annual event, this years Darts Farm are growing fields of beautiful sunflowers and asking for donations for the ‘Pick Your Owns’ to raise money for Hospicecare.

So if you are in the area during the summer months then this is well worth a visit and something to pit on your summer ‘must do’ list!!!

We discovered Darts Farm last year whilst staying at Cofton Country Holiday Park

Family Days Tried and Tested
🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️😷🍿🎬 We’re thr 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️😷🍿🎬 We’re throwing a ‘lockdown heroes’ treat night for the children as a reminder to them of how proud we are of them holding it together during the lock down.
I made some printouts to set the scene and we’ll have treats and watch a superhero movie.
This pandemic is so hard on everyone and it’s so easy to overlook how well the children are cracking on throughout, they are so resilient when it comes to change but it’s such an incredibly emotional and unknown time for their little minds.

So this little treat night is a reminder to them that they too are hero’s in their own right and that we’re proud of the part they play too 💖
🚶‍♀️🚶📮✉️🌈🚪 We took a walk 🚶‍♀️🚶📮✉️🌈🚪 We took a walk around our neighbourhood and used the time to practice our colours by spotting different coloured doors. We took a photo so we could sit down and look at them when we got home too.
A really simple, fun and educational activity, with the bonus of fresh air too 👌

**All the doors opened onto the main pavement meaning that there were not any front gardens or paths, so we didn’t trespass 😉
🌳📏Finding out how old trees are using string 🌳📏Finding out how old trees are using string!
We used a piece of string on which we made a mark every 2.5cm along, we then chose our trees and wrapped the string around the girth of the tree around 1.5m up (5ft).
The then we counted the points on the marker and each point (2.5cm) was equal to 1 year.
This tree is was around 52 years old.
🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️📝 This morning I wrot 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️📝 This morning I wrote a poem and popped it on the door to remind the children that I think they are heroes of lockdown in their own right, here’s what it reads..

Dear kids,
I want to remind you,
That I think you’re quite amazing,
And I’m proud of what you do.

You’ve adapted during lockdown
And I know you miss your school
But you’ve held it all together
And I think you’re really cool

I know it’s not been easy
But you’ve rocked in every way
And been strong throughout the lockdown
And a hero everyday

It’s been tough to follow guidelines
To stay at home and not explore
To not visits parks or playground
And help with learning & with chores

And I’m proud of your achievements
Whilst we all stay safe at home
When we’re missing all our loved ones
That we talk to on our phones

So I wanted to say that you’re a hero
And I know this virus is a poo
But you’re helping our world stay safe
In everything you do

So know that you’re amazing
And know that you’re divine
Know that you have got this
And you’re really doing fine

And everyday you show me
That you’re brave and that you’re smart
And mostly that you’re wonderful
And for that you hold my heart

You rock!!
