Don’t throw away those old school pinafore dresses!! Use them to make some wonderful keepsakes..a beautiful memory cushion to hold onto for years to come… SUPER QUICK, SIMPLE AND WITHOUT THE NEED TO SEW!!
You could use your child’s first school dress or even get older children to make them as a summer project. And the best thing is you can make them with a NO SEW method or stitch it, the choice is yours.
Firstly, chose your dress. We opted for one with a chest pocket so we slip in a school photograph.
Cut off the bottom of the dress to allow for the size cushion you would like. I chose to cut it at waist length allowing for an inch of wonder webbing.
Here’s the NO SEW secret…. *Wonder Web! You can purchase this in craft stores and supermarkets for just a few pound. You simply place it in between the material you’d like attaching together, lay a damp tea towel over the top and apply pressure with an iron.
I’ve marked the places you will need to Wonderweb/sew below.
Ensure your wonder web does not touch the zip and once placed do the zip up before ironing.
Place in the cuff.
Carefully turn the dress inside out and apply your wonder web or alternatively sew along the bottom of the dress.
Turn back the right way, open the zip and carefully stuff. I used the insert from an old cushion.
Finally finish of by personalising your dress by tucking a school photo or letter into the pocket.
A lovely keepsake that will last forever.
If you enjoyed this you could also make a super easy Pillowcase Nightdress or a gorgeous Baby’s First Sleepsuit Keepsake Bear.
