Chocolate Dinosaurs Egg Filled Nest

Everybody loves dinosaurs & everybody likes chocolate rice crispy cakes… and they’re even better when put together!

We have some dinosaurs that visit our house and cause lovable havoc whilst the kids sleep and sometimes you never know what you’re going to wake up to find….sometimes their nocturnal antics are truly yummy 🙂

Yesterday we awoke to a dinosaurs nest full of eggs in the kitchen! The kids couldn’t believe their eyes and we ended up digging into chunks of chocolate crispy cake and glasses of milk for breakfast.

There’s something quite magical about the dinosaur visits… a little sparkle and make believe is so nice for children during a childhood that fleets by so quickly.

Here’s how I made our dinosaur nest once the kids had gone to bed and i was out of their watchful gaze. It literally took less than half an hour. You will need:

  • chocolate
  • Cornflakes or Rice Crispies
  • Small chocolate eggs
  • Cling film
  • 2 Large bowls

Start by lining a large bowl with clingfilm (I used a wok) and place a bowl upside down in the middle.IMG_1522

Melt your chocolate in a bowl by placing it on a simmering saucepan of water. Once melted add your cornflakes and mix well.

Place your chocolatey mix all around the bowl, be sure to save a couple of spoonfuls of your mix to make the nest base, leave them in the warm bowl over the saucepan so they do not set until you are ready to use..

Place in the fridge to set (i popped mine in the freezer for 15 minutes!!) and once solid carefully remove the bowl, tuck the overhanging cling film underneath the nest so it is out of site but will still act as a ‘plate’. Use the remaining spoonfuls of your mixture to put in the middle to make your nest base.

Thats it!!! Just fill with your dinosaur eggs, place your dinosaurs and await the magic of the kids discovering it in the morning 🙂
