Fine Dining On The Magical Pizza Express

Pizza Express Train Journey

‘Whizzing through the countryside.
in a carriage with a view.
with a comfy seat at dinnertime,
and a pizza just for you.

A few weeks ago we decided to take a return train journey from South Wales through the beautiful mountains of Mid Wales and to the coast of Aberystwyth in North Wales.

A normal train journey on an Arriva train… but with a difference.

We decided to add a little magic to our train journey with the children in a bid to make the ordinary extraordinary. With just a few simple props and a case full of yumminess, we made some magical memories that will last forever.

I knocked up some special train tickets a few days before to present to the kids. This was done with some basic clip art pictures and a ‘write on’ photo app on my iPhone. There are loads available. Once designed and printed I just added glitter, placed it in a folded gold piece of card and tied it with a bow.

These tickets were placed in our family Weekend Box as a magical treat.

We filled an old suitcase with all we’d need to lay our table once on the train:

  • A table cloth
  • Some paper cups and plates
  • A battery-operated candle
  • Plastic flowers
  • A Chalkboard and chalk
  • A bottle of drink
  • Takeaway Pizza! (Ordered from a pizza place close to the station to coincide with our return journey)

Note, we pre-booked our tickets to ensure we had a table reserved.

Once on the train, we laid the table and dug in as we sped through the countryside.

After we had finished our tea, we cleaned away our table and spent the rest of our journey enjoying the view.

And a beautiful end to the day it was too.

You can book your train tickets directly through Arriva Trains Wales and reserve tables for your journey. No booking or card fees.

*We would like to thank Arriva trains who gave us complimentary tickets to take a train journey on the Welsh network.
