We headed to the Forest of Dean in search of Autumn today and found it in full force…we didn’t have any hardened plans so just stopped off to blow the cobwebs away at three locations in a close radius to each other.

I wanted to try and capture what the forest was looking like from above so took some ariel shots…here are the results.

We started off by stopping at New Fancy, with just a 5 minute walk to the top of the hill from the free carpark it is an ideal spot to watch birds of prey in flight and look out over the spectacular rolling view of the forest.

We then moved on to Mallards Pike Lake, a firm favourite during the winter months with an abundance of beautiful colours and feast of gorgeous reflections on the lake. It’s the ideal place for a bike ride or walk around the lake…car parking charges apply to park by the lake.

Lastly we stopped at Cyril Hart Arboretum to get a good look at an array of different trees.

The arboretum was started in 1910 and today contains more than 400 trees and is a real feast for outdoor lovers.

The Arboretum is adjacent to Speech house.

The parking was free.

All three of the locations we visited today were suitable for buggies and had good paths.
